Dish Network - What You Need To Know

Dish Network is a popular American direct-broadcast satellite service provider that provides services like satellite television, satellite internet, audio programming, and interactive television services to its 35.8 million subscriber’s (May 2015)  in the US. The headquarters of the company is in Meridian, Colorado. The parent company of Dish Network is EchoStar; a satellite television equipment distributor established in 1980.They launched their first satellite, EchoStar I in December 1995.Dish Network since its inception in March 1996 provided subscription television services to its customers and EchoStar still remains as their primary technology partner and owns 9 communication satellites. The notable personalities who worked in the company include Joseph Clayton, who became the president and chief executive officer of Dish Network Corporation in June 2011 until his retirement in March 31, 2015.Charlie Ergen who became the next chief executive officer laid stress on updating technology for the company and within a decade the company successfully provided internet, video and telephone service for both home and commercial applications. The main service Dish Network offers is satellite television. The customers of this network have an option to choose from a set of service bundles. Service bundles are carefully crafted to cater the needs of the customers. There are sports only programming bundles as well regional channels only pack at an affordable rate. A la carte programming is also available and that kind of programming is void of the Premium channels. They have also diversified their offering and their customers can now purchase Blockbuster Videos from their Blockbuster stores. Dish Network's intellectual property agreement between various third parties allows them to offer streaming and mail-order video services to their customers. They also have a subscriber-only streaming video service and it has HBO and Cinemax. These types of services are more interactive to the needs of the customers because the customer has the option to select the program he/she need with ease. In the case of a normal TV programming the customer is not able to choose the programs he/she wants to watch because at the time of broadcast of a particular program he/she won’t be able to watch. As of May 2012, Dish Network is ranked second in the American Customer Satisfaction Index among American television providers. Tailgater Services Tailgater is a portable satellite antenna that costs anywhere between $350 and needs to a compatible receiver like a Vip211k ($499) to get the preferred channels the customer wants. The customer also needs to pay for the time in which the receiver is active (Vip211k is $7 per month).Tailgater weights about 10 pounds and can protect itself from harsh weather. Satellites like Dish's 119 (SD/HD TV), 110 (SD/HD TV), and 129 (SD/HD TV) compactable with Tailgater and the it automatically searches for a signals once activated, from these satellites. Hopper service Dish Hopper (DVR) is an excellent service offered by the Dish Network. Dish Hopper can automatically record prime time programming from major television networks and the recorded material can be later viewed by the subscriber whenever he/she wants from the comfort of his/her home. The recorded material can be played again and again and you can also pause the program and resume from the last paused frame whenever you want. The programs that are stored in the Dish Hopper (DVR) with be automatically deleted after a particular time frame. A charge of $12 per month is needed to be paid for this service and the customer will get 2 TB space.1 TB space is enough to store 500 hours of high-definition television or 2000 hours of standard-definition television programs.1TB space is reserved for video on demand services and these services can also be recorded. The other features provided by Hopper service is also top notch like the AutoHop feature, which can strip off the commercials from the programs. Hopper with Sling, the updated version of the hopper uses Slingbox place-shifting technology that enables the user to watch live TV and DVR recordings online through a PC or a mobile device. The Hopper Transfers app which can be installed on your iPad and Android device has the ability to download the programs directly to your device for offline viewing. Hopper with Sling has been praised by critics for its advanced cutting-edge technology.
